A softly-spoken and well-informed doula

Candace is a softly spoken and well-informed doula. She was a wonderful support during the final days before our brother's passing, staying with him late into the night and past the point when we were physically and emotionally exhausted.

Her support continued into the carefully negotiated funeral arrangements, which she handled with calm attention to the wishes of all the diverse members of the family, checking with us at each step to ensure we had all the information we required and had the opportunity to be fully engaged with the preparations.

Having Candace involved greatly eased our burden on what would otherwise have been a much more difficult experience.

When my mother Mavis died it was not only confronting for us in terms of grief but this was also unknown territory to navigate.

My father died 30 years ago and my mother (Mavis) organised it all and I have very little recollection of essentially what had to be done! Iain filled this gap on every level. His knowledge about the whole process was almost encyclopedic and a huge huge help.

He guided us through all that had to be done as well as being an excellent celebrant. He was gentle ( for want of a better word) with us, making us laugh as we went through our recollections and essentially brought us joy during what was a very difficult time. He asked all the right questions so that we were able to give him a picture of Mavis and her life and he in turn, whilst conducting the service presented an interesting, measured and at times joyful representation of her.

Candace has a way of knowing what needs to be done and does it gently and with a smile. When our family member died, she helped us with the vigil and explained the physical changes as they were happening. She helped us care for the body and liaised with the funeral company to make sure every detail was considered and appropriate for our family. She explained options and provided enough information so we felt like we were making the best decisions for our loved ones.
